USCDM Frequently Asked Questions
What is the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon?
Dance Marathon at the University of South Carolina is the largest student-run philanthropy on campus. It is an annual 24-hour no-sitting, no-sleeping event held in March. It celebrates the year-long efforts to raise awareness and funds for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Columbia, SC. It is the largest freestanding children’s hospital in the state, serving more than 80,000 children each year in its inpatient and outpatient facilities.
Can I register as an individual?
Yes! You do not have to register under a team name or with a group. We will take care of assigning you to a color team and making sure that you know everything there is to know along the way.
Can I create a team?
Yes! Whether you have a group from a student organization, athletic club, or a group of friends, you can create your own team name and continue to register on our Donor Drive page. We will stay in contact with you, as the team captain, and make sure you know everything you need to pass on to your teammates.
I cannot be at the Day Of event- are there any other ways for me to get involved with USCDM?
Of course! We have events going on all year long ranging from a ft5k in November, to percent nights at local eateries, to various fundraisers out on Greene Street. Check out our website and social media sites to constantly find new ways to get involved.
Am I required to raise a certain amount?
We urge registered dancers to raise at least $150.00. We understand that students are busy so we make every effort we can to find different ways for you to fundraise and add to your total. You’re certainly not on your own! We stay in contact with registered students to assist them in fundraising along the way in order to reach their goal.
Do you actually dance for 24 straight hours?
No! Although we are called “Dance Marathon”, we have a wide variety of exciting programs going on throughout the 24 hour event. Our production team works year round to make sure registrants will be engaged and having fun doing a wide variety of things that spark their interest. We are always coming up with new ideas and would love your input too!
How do I raise my money?
After you register for USCDM, you will stay in contact with our Dancer Relations Director who will ensure that you know every possible way you could be raising money For The Kids. Fundraising strategies range from sending our letter template to family and friends, purchasing USCDM merchandise, to more interactive fundraisers year round with the USCDM team!
Do I have to be in Greek Life?
No! We encourage ALL students at the University of South Carolina to get involved. USCDM is the perfect opportunity to unite a diverse group of students across campus that are passionate about the same cause.
