USCDM Frequently Asked Questions
What is the University of South Carolina Dance Marathon?
The University of South Carolina Dance Marathon (USCDM) is the largest student-run philanthropic organization on campus. It is an annual no-sitting, no-sleeping event held in the spring. It celebrates the year-long efforts to raise awareness and funds for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Columbia, SC. It is the largest freestanding children’s hospital in the state, serving more than 80,000 children each year in its inpatient and outpatient facilities.
Can I register as an individual?
Yes! You do not have to register under a team name or with a group. We will take care of assigning you to a color team and making sure that you know everything there is to know along the way.
Can I create a team?
Yes! Whether you have a group from a student organization, athletic club, or a group of friends, you can create your own team name and continue to register on our Donor Drive page. We will stay in contact with you, as the team captain, and make sure you know everything you need to pass on to your teammates.
Am I required to raise a certain amount?
In order to attend Main Event 2016, each registered Hero is asked to raise $119 as a minimum and encouraged to strive for a goal of $250. Why $119 you may ask? The funds raised by USCDM directly benefit the Child Life Program at Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and the Child Life Specialists reach 119 children each and every day.
Do you actually dance the whole time?
No! Although we are called “Dance Marathon”, we have a wide variety of exciting programs going on throughout the Main Event. Our production team works year round to make sure registrants will be engaged and having fun doing a wide variety of things that spark their interest. We are always coming up with new ideas and would love your input too!
How do I raise my money?
After you register for USCDM, you will stay in contact with our Dancer Relations Director who will ensure that you know every possible way you could be raising money For The Kids. Fundraising strategies range from sending our letter template to family and friends, purchasing USCDM merchandise, to more interactive fundraisers year round with the USCDM team!
Do I have to be in Greek Life?
No! We encourage ALL students at the University of South Carolina to get involved. USCDM is the perfect opportunity to unite a diverse group of students across campus that are passionate about the same cause.
