Welcome!

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society for psychology and is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. It has grown to be one of the four largest honor societies in the Association of College Honor Societies, with over 325,000 members in over 940 chapters across the United States. The majority of psychologists active in the field were elected to membership of Psi Chi as undergraduates. The membership roster includes B. F. Skinner, Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis, and Janet T. Spence.

The purpose of Psi Chi is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship in all fields, particularly in psychology. Academic recognition is provided to Psi Chi members through identification with the society. Psi Chi membership reflects both a high level of academic achievement and a commitment to the field of psychology.

If you are interested in membership, speak to your advisor, contact the Student Services Office in the Psychology Department or stop by the Psi Chi Office located in 246 Barnwell.

Why Should You Join?

In addition to offering a way to become more involved at this university by participating in activities with people who share similar interests, other concrete advantages of membership in this prestigious organization include:

· The documents: a membership certificate and card which give tangible evidence of membership.

· The references provided throughout one's lifetime (this service alone is worth the investment).

· The experience gained by working with Psi Chi is excellent for building up a resume; it is difficult to attain that first managerial and creative experience.

· Psi Chi is a springboard for professional growth. Opportunities are made available to the members for promoting their research, receiving national and international recognition, meeting and interacting with leaders in their field, and meeting Psi Chi members of other chapters who also will be future leaders.

The United States government recognizes membership in Psi Chi as meeting one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in the Federal service.

Have you thought about purchasing honor cords or stoles yet?  If not, please do consider this opportunity.  Remember that cords and stoles purchased from Psi Chi are the only way to show that you have honors in psychology.  The department does not provide such merchandise.  We hope that you will take advantage of this offer.  If you are interested there are handouts with the different options on the door of our office (Barnwell Room 246) or you may check them out at www.psichi.org . We will begin taking orders for graduation merchandise in MARCH, so be on the look-out for more information!  Orders must be placed and paid for by APRIL 18th!
